SEED DRILLS

Seed drills with sweeps are more suitable for stonier soils

Are coulter seed drills suitable for stony soils?

Seed drills with sweeps, especially when used for direct sowing, are very suitable for soils in bad physical condition and are easy to adjust, but seed drills with sweeps have problems working with stones and roots and are inclined to accumulate crop residues if there are a lot of such residues on the site.

In seed drills for direct sowing that use coulters, it is recommended that the coulters be equipped with a safety mechanism for when they come up against relatively large stones. On stony soil containing only small pebbles, this should not be a problem.

In any case, seed drills with sweeps are more suitable for soils containing stones, since when they collide with a stone they simply roll over them without suffering any damage.
